Uzbekistan and Malaysia: co-operation in higher education, science and innovation demonstrates new facets
2025-01-23 1585Uzbekistan and Malaysia have been developing consistent and effective co-operation, establishing strong ties in higher education, science and innovation. Visits and summits between the leaders of the two countries give a powerful impetus to this process, opening up new areas of educational and scientific co-operation.
In February 2025, within the framework of the high-level visit of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Malaysia, it is planned to sign a number of important agreements aimed at further expansion of cooperation. It is expected that this visit will bring to a new level the cooperation between the two countries in education, science and innovation, as well as give impetus to the implementation of joint projects in the field of innovative technologies and personnel training.
In the era of accelerating globalisation, international cooperation in higher education is of strategic importance. From this point of view, integration in the higher education system is promoted as one of the important aspects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Malaysia. Relations in the field of higher education between Uzbekistan and Malaysia have developed significantly in recent years and reached a new level. This cooperation is aimed at modernising the education systems of the two countries and ensuring their integration in the international arena. -
External labor migration as one of the key sources of economic development of Uzbekistan
2025-01-23 1922According to the International Organization for Migration, there are currently 281 million international migrants in the world, with the number of displaced persons reaching 117 million.
In this regard, ensuring safe and legal migration processes in the context of globalization is a multifaceted task, including for the Republic of Uzbekistan, which requires a deep analysis of various influencing factors and their consequences.
Since 2017, Uzbekistan has launched a process of epochal transformations that determine the long-term trajectory of development of the country's social and political life, including large-scale reforms in the labor market, in particular, in the area of external labor migration.
This is confirmed by the amendments made to the updated Constitution of Uzbekistan, the purpose of which is to strengthen measures to protect the labor rights of citizens of the country. From now on, a number of norms guarantee everyone the right to decent work, free choice of profession, working conditions that meet safety and hygiene requirements, fair remuneration determined without discrimination and not lower than the established minimum wage.
However, given the rapid growth of the country's population, the government of Uzbekistan is faced with new challenges in the area of employment of citizens seeking work, including the creation of new jobs, ensuring stability in the social sphere, etc.
In this context, we would like to refer to the indicators, reflecting the current state of the labor market in Uzbekistan.
The country is the leader among the Central Asian states in terms of absolute demographic growth. According to the Statistics Agency, at the beginning of 2025 the population of the country reached more than 37.5 million people, which indicates a significant increase of almost 750 thousand people compared to the beginning of 2024. -

2025-01-22 2091(Reflections on the active, pragmatic and open foreign policy of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in 2024)
2024: A Look at Uzbekistan's New Foreign Policy
Taking into account the unparalleled and rapid changes occurring in our country's life, as well as the increasingly beautiful and prosperous appearance of our cities and villages, we have every reason to declare that 2024 was a highly productive, fruitful, and blessed year in all respects.
I believe this is due to a significant truth: the idea of “New Uzbekistan”, which has deeply taken root in the consciousness of our people, has inspired each of us toward great goals and transformed into a nationwide movement.
As our President Shavkat Mirziyoyev aptly put it:
"The dreams and aspirations of our people, which have been shaped by our national mindset from ancient times to the present, and have been expressed in various ideas and practical actions, are now embodied in the concept of New Uzbekistan."
When analyzing the profound changes taking place in the life of New Uzbekistan, we can clearly see that in the past year, our country’s reputation as a competitive state and a reliable partner in the world has further grown. Most notably, our constructive initiatives of international and regional significance have been unanimously supported by the global community.
I personally consider this to be the life-giving fruit of the noble ideas and initiatives put forward by the head of our state, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
To confirm my words, I find it appropriate to mention the sincere congratulations and well-wishes sent on the occasion of the new year 2025 to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, by leaders of the most advanced foreign nations, parliaments, governments, prestigious international and regional organizations, global financial institutions, as well as prominent politicians, public figures, and religious leaders. -

Uzbekistan is firmly committed to protecting intellectual property
2025-01-10 765In an information society where time and economy are rapidly developing, where knowledge and innovation play an important role, ensuring the protection of intellectual property is one of the important conditions facing every country. Uzbekistan is also implementing a number of reforms to strengthen the protection of intellectual property.
In particular, at an event dedicated to improving the system of protection of intellectual property objects, the Head of our state, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, noted that if the issue of intellectual property is not considered at the level of state policy, Uzbekistan will not be competitive in this area even after 10 years. This statement emphasizes the need to actively work in the field of intellectual property protection and include this issue in the priorities of the state.
The normative and legal documents adopted for the protection of intellectual property are constantly being improved, and legal mechanisms are being developed to develop the industry. Previously, the protection of intellectual property was regulated by codes and laws, but the fact that Article 53 of the new constitution stipulates that intellectual property is protected by law indicates that the protection of intellectual property has been elevated to the constitutional level. -
ADVOCACY IN UZBEKISTAN BECOMING THE MOST IMPORTANT INSTITUTION IN THE LEGAL SYSTEM
2025-01-08 814In recent years, the Republic of Uzbekistan has implemented large-scale reforms to enhance the role and significance of the legal profession as one of the effective institutions for ensuring the protection of human rights, freedoms, and legitimate interests. In particular, measures have been taken to ensure the independence of the legal profession and lawyers, organize work based on the principle of adversarial proceedings at all stages of legal proceedings, and create the necessary legislative framework for lawyers to carry out their professional activities.
At the referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan held on April 30, 2023, it was determined that the new version of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, adopted by a nationwide vote, has the highest legal force, direct effect throughout the country, and forms the basis of a unified legal space. At the same time, the inclusion of a separate chapter on the legal profession in the Constitution indicates its importance within the framework of ongoing reforms in the judicial and legal sphere. Chapter XXIV of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which includes Articles 141-142, defines the main provisions concerning the legal profession. In particular, the provision of qualified legal assistance to individuals and legal entities, the principles of legal practice, guarantees of legal activities, and social protection of lawyers are enshrined at the constitutional level. -

The support of UN member states for Uzbekistan's initiatives is the result of systemic reforms in the country
2024-12-26 752The Republic of Uzbekistan has demonstrated significant success in the international arena, strengthening its active participation in the United Nations (UN) and its specialized agencies. In 2024, the country achieved a number of key milestones that underline its commitment to universal principles and standards in the areas of human rights, socio-economic development, labor, and global cooperation.
One of the most significant achievements was the election of a representative of Uzbekistan to the UN Human Rights Committee (HRC) for the period 2025-2028, which was an important evidence of the strengthening of the country's position in the system of international human rights mechanisms. The HRC, as an authoritative treaty body, monitors the implementation by states parties of their obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Uzbekistan acceded in 1995. This step not only emphasizes the importance of the country's progress in ensuring and protecting human rights, but also demonstrates its readiness to actively participate in the formation and improvement of global standards in this area. The participation of a representative of Uzbekistan in the work of the HRC opens up broad opportunities for the exchange of best practices, strengthening international cooperation and contributing to the development of fair and effective approaches to the protection of human rights and freedoms at the global level.
